Yoga for Osteoporosis / Strong Muscles & Bones

Online Only!   Did you know that doing 12 yoga poses each day can improve your bone density?  It can!  Dr. Loren Fishman has worked with hundreds of patients with osteoporosis or osteopenia since 2005 and has demonstrated that doing just 12 yoga poses daily (about a 12- to 15-minute practice) can improve the bone density for your femur, pelvis and spine.   And now Dr. Fishman has 3 yoga series (12 poses each), testing new poses that may be as good as the original 12 or better and now also helping focus on your wrists (4th most common fracture) and your ribs (5th most common fracture).

This class will allow you to practice your 12 poses as a group.  You’ll begin to learn more variations of some of the poses as we adapt them to folks that have wrist arthritis, knee & shoulder issues and more.  You’ll also work on proper alignment in all of the poses, which is critical to helping your posture, preventing back pain & to gain strength over time.  Each week we will try a different series where you will be given Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced variations and modifications for the poses.  Please note that while strengthening the body, we must always listen to our internal wisdom and practice the yogic principle of Ahimsa (non violence towards ourselves).  Yoga is never “no pain, no gain.”  But instead we listen to our inner wisdom and do what we can that day honoring our bodies, gradually strengthening ourselves without doing harm.  And learning to have just the right effort in the pose is vital for building bone strength.

So if you have osteoporosis or osteopenia or just want to get stronger and prevent getting them in the future, send an email to Karen@YogaTherapyWithKaren.com to join the class.  Aall online classes (except for special workshops) are donation based.  Pay what you can if you like the class by sending a donation.  If you want to send a donation, you can send via Venmo (YogaTherapyWithKaren), Zelle (Karen@YogaTherapyWithKaren.com) or send a check in the mail.
