Yoga for Sacroiliac (SI) Pain with special focus on Lumbar Scoliosis

If you are having SI pain, especially if you have a lumbar scoliotic curve, this class will teach you several techniques to bring your body into alignment and help reduce the pain.   I searched for almost two decades to find something holistic that would relieve my aching low back/hips (specifically the sacroiliac area).  I went to many trainings and back pain workshops and finally found several things that put my SI back into alignment.  Some of the amazing teachers that showed me the way are Dr. Loren Fishman, Terry Brown, Beth Spindler, Valerie Granade and Rachel Krentzman.  I am hugely indebted to their brilliance.  Now I use their techniques (plus a few more that I have gleaned from other places) to help my folks get out of pain.  For me the keys to bringing your SI back into alignment are:

  1. Traction
  2. Stabilizing either the hips, spine or legs and moving at various vectors to release tight muscles that may be pulling the sacrum or the ilium (hip) bones out of alignment
  3. Then strengthening weak muscles around the hips to stabilize your SI joint.
  4. The last key, is to work with a Structural Integration Bodyworker.  This has helped me tremendously in not moving out of alignment nearly as frequently as I was before.

By the way, I won’t be able to teach you everything I know in one class, so this class is the tip of the iceberg, but it’s a really good tip.  Second, it typically takes me 3-4 days of practicing these techniques and then the joint goes back into alignment.  It’s rarely instantaneous.  However, it now typically lasts for months until I do something that causes it to “pop out” again.  Then I dive back into my SI practice to get it cleared up.

Want to learn a few of my tips on how to help your SI pain go away?  Join me by sending an email to Karen@YogaTherapyWithKaren.com to sign up for this online Zoom class.  The class costs $10 unless you are one of my regular monthly class attendees, and then it is free.  Note:  The class will be videoed, so if you can’t make the class in-person, let me know and I can send you the link later.
