Love Your Bones! Yoga for Osteoporosis FREE Shepherd’s Center Workshop
In this month of Valentines, I like to give a little extra love to our bones. Sound weird? Maybe so, but I am PASSIONATE about finding natural, healthy ways via yoga to help with healthy aging concerns. And bone density is a huge problem for many of us. Did you know that certain yoga poses have been shown to build bone density? If you have osteopenia or osteoporosis, this workshop is for you to learn a new, natural way to build your bones.
One of my main teachers is Dr. Loren Fishman (whom I adore). Dr. Fishman is a medical doctor who discovered yoga right out of college and before med school. He met, and studied with BKS Iyengar in India before coming back to the states. Dr. Fishman continued his medical studies along with his yogic practice over the decades. In 2005 he started a research program to see if 12 specific poses could help build bone density. People in the program first had a DEXA taken no more than 6 months prior to beginning the poses. They were then taught the 12 poses and were to do them daily (taking about 15 minutes to do each day). After two years another DEXA was done and 85% of the people in the research group had improved bone density! Dr. Fishman has continued his research in how certain yoga poses build bone density since 2005 with additional studies. It continues to prove that for many people, yoga can be an effective, healthy way to improve your bone density.
This in-person workshop, sponsored by The Shepherd’s Center, will teach you how to do Dr. Fishman’s 12 poses for osteoporosis. (And you’ll learn which yoga poses not to do.) I hope you will join us!
